In a previous post, Operation Turtle Dove supporter Tristan Reid gave us an update on his amazing fund raising marathon attempt to run 1000 miles in memory of Martha, the last ever Passenger Pigeon who died in Cincinnati Zoo on the 1st September 1914. Martha’s story is a warning of what can happen to a once numerous species if we sit back and do nothing about the loss of nesting and foraging habitat, and unsustainable levels of hunting.
Tristan has now completed marathon #11 of 14, a total of 867.34 miles! Marathon #11 was undertaken as a solo exercise when the organised marathon that Tristan was scheduled to take part in was cancelled. Motivating oneself to run all that way alone takes a lot of willpower. You can read more about how he achieved it on his blog, and then support his efforts!
